How to Reach out to Brands for Collaborations: Dos and Don'ts
So you want to collaborate with your favorite brands? That's awesome! Brand collaborations can be exciting, rewarding, and honestly, a lot of fun. But here's the thing, reaching out to brands the right way makes all the difference. At Aubrey's Aesthetics, we've been on both sides of collaboration requests, and we've learned what works and what absolutely doesn't.
The DOs
Understand the Brand
Before you hit send on that email, spend some time researching the brand. You don't necessarily need to know every detail about the business, but at least understand what it is that they sell and what their values are.
Be Specific and Genuine
Mention something concrete about the brand or their products that you actually like. Don't just say "I love your brand." Tell them why. What about their aesthetic speaks to you? What makes their brand special?
Include Your Location
Some collaborations or programs are specific to a certain location or country. Let them know where you're based and who your audience is. This helps them understand the value and possibility of collaborating with you.
Engage Before You Ask
Follow their socials and interact with their content before reaching out. Like their posts, comment thoughtfully, and build a genuine connection. This is a great way to introduce yourself to a brand and show that you value them, not just want something from them. Brands notice when you're a real supporter.
The DON'Ts
Don't Mass Email
A big no no of sending emails to brands is copying and pasting the same message to multiple brands. Trust us when we say that a generic email that can be sent to anyone just doesn't stand out anymore. Each collaboration request should feel personal and intentional.
Don't Skim the Details
When a brand has specific collaboration guidelines or requirements, read them carefully. Skipping over these details can result in misunderstandings of guidelines and what's expected of you as a creator.
Don't Assume All Programs Are the Same
Every brand does collaborations differently. What worked with one brand might not work with another. One brand's program may not run the same way that another brand's does. Stay flexible and adaptable, and as mentioned, don't skim the details!
Don't Forget About Small Businesses
Remember that some businesses are small operations, just like us here at Aubrey's Aesthetics. Don't expect small businesses to send free products to anyone that sends an email. Small businesses are doing their best with limited resources, so be patient and understanding.
Don't Skip Proofreading
Typos and grammatical errors are collaboration killers. Proofread your email multiple times before sending.

Now that you know the dos and don'ts, you're ready to reach out to brands the right way.
